Late Permian (14, no strat column)

Province:
Indochina Block: Loei Fold Belt

Type Locality and Naming

Pha Nok Khao Platform (Khon San region; south of Loei region): The type section is at Ban Hua Na Kham in Chaiyaphum Province (DMR 1992).

Synonym:

[Figure: Late Paleozoic major facies subdivisions on the western margin of the Indochina Block by Ueno and Charoentitirat (2011). (Slightly modified from Wielchowsky & Young 1985).]

Lithology and Thickness

Shale and sandstone unit with thin limestone lenses or beds. Probably exceeds 2000 m in thickness.

Sandy claystone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Overlies the Pha Nok Khao Fm.

Upper contact

Terminated by the Indosinian I Event. Next younger regional formation is the Huai Hin Lat Fm of late Triassic?

Regional extent

Present only in areas west and SW of Khon San in Chaiyaphum Province

Fossils

Little is known of its fossil content

Age

Little is known of its fossil content but, based on its stratigraphic position overlying the Pha Nok Khao Formation and its siliciclastic lithofacies, this formation appears to correlate with the upper part of the E-Lert Fm and/or Pha Dua Fm in the Loei area
